Jennifer Lopez

Terrell ISD is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Lopez as the new Principal of W.H. Burnett Early Childhood Center. Principal Lopez brings eighteen years of educational experience to the district and is a proven leader of Headstart programs which will be extremely beneficial for W.H. Burnett families.

Lopez began her career in 2006 as an elementary teacher in Mesquite ISD. For the next ten years she served in the classroom as a math instructor in Mesquite, Garland and Community ISD before becoming an Instructional Coach in 2016 for Community ISD.   In 2018, Lopez was named as assistant principal at The Campbell School.  While there she worked to  increase academic outcomes and family engagement which caught the attention of Rockwall ISD.  In 2020 she was named as an assistant principal in Rockwall ISD and has served in that capacity at both Dobbs and Rochell Elementary.

Lopez holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Students from Texas A&M-Commerce and a Masters of Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at Arlington.  She is a member of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association and trained in the Aspiring Principals Academy.

Lopez expressed great enthusiasm about her new appointment to lead the district’s littlest Tigers and shared that her favorite quote is from Frederick Douglas which states "It is easier to build strong children, than to repair broken men." “I look forward to building up our youngest learners into strong independent thinkers with good character,” she shared.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Jennifer Lopez to the Terrell ISD team,” said Dr. Georgeanne Warnock, Terrell ISD Superintendent. “I am certain that Ms. Lopez will lead our littlest Tigers, their families, and the staff with energy, focus, passion, and deep-seated conviction in the belief that we will achieve unprecedented outcomes for children.”

The district will host a meet and greet for W.H. Burnett families in July.  More information regarding the Meet and Greet will be shared after the fourth of July break.
