An exciting new opportunity is making its way to students who attend Furlough Middle School next year. The College Preparatory Academy at Furlough Middle School will open in August 2025 and will help middle school students to build a strong college readiness foundation.
The College Preparatory Academy will operate as a “school within a school” at Furlough Middle School and students must apply to attend. In its first year, the Academy will serve 125 incoming sixth grade students and each year an additional grade level will be added until full buildout by the 2027-2028 school year.
Incoming sixth grade students who apply and are accepted into the Academy will enroll in honors level and college preparatory courses and will have the opportunity to earn up to four high school credits by the time they complete eighth grade.
Additionally, students will have the opportunity to participate in summer enrichment programs and attend college tours as well as participate in community service based projects that are geared toward college readiness.
Acceptance into the College Preparatory Academy will be based on a student’s grades and attendance, discipline history and standardized test scores. Students will also be required to submit an essay and a teacher recommendation letter. The academy is open to all students living within Terrell ISD boundaries.
The online application window for incoming sixth grade students will open on Tuesday, April 1 and close on Friday, April 18, 2025. Students will be notified of their acceptance on May 2, 2025.
The Academy will host two Parent Information Sessions for parents of incoming sixth graders on Thursday, April 3 and Thursday, April 10. Both sessions will be held from 6-7:30 PM at Furlough Middle School located at 1351 Colquitt Road.
